Rip Collins' and His
World Record Brown Trout

On May 5, 1992, Howard "Rip" Collins of Heber Springs, Arkansas, caught "a mighty fine fish."

Fishing with a 1/32 oz. jig on 4-pound line and ultralite fishing tackle in the Little Red River near his home, he landed a 40 lb. 4 oz. German Brown Trout, a new world record.

When it came time to make a replica for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Museum, Rip chose renowned Arkansas wildlife artist Duane Hada to do the project.

The pictures on the left show Duane and Rip laughing about the ultralight tackle used to land the giant fish, the replica in process in Duane's workshop, and the finished project, now in the AGFC museum in Little Rock.

Duane will soon have some stories to tell here about Rip as they became good friends before Rip's death in 1997.
